One of my granddaughters found that out personally when she confiscated her own daughter's cellphone as a disciplinary measure. Apparently it got really ugly. To these children, life IS their phone. And therein lies the great danger for society as it marches forward.

Thanks for posting this. When I initially saw the headlines about states suing FB for causing addiction, I thought that was far fetched. However, this information explains why they are doing so, and how evil Mark Z is.

We were late getting on the mobile phone bandwagon. I finally got them when my oldest daughter was about 16 and I wanted her to be able to call me from wherever she might be. Those first ones weren't "smart phones" but they still did a lot. We were in the last 25% of holdouts...

Fast forward quite a few years and I'm using my smart phone for everything. Shopping, reading books, checking weather and road conditions, email, text, etc. I've seen how it has taken over my life. Having all that information and power in a pocket computer is handy but it seems like it rewires us. My attention span, for example seems to have grown much shorter. If I want to sit on the front porch and just relax... will a couple minutes pass by before I pull out the pocket computer for some reason and start focusing on that screen?

I read the article. It's ugly. I was against letting our kids do too much in the way of computer games because those rewire the brain but the "kids" are 40 and 43 this year. It's the granddaughters who have to navigate this brave new world and I just pray the Rapture is soon.

Andy when I first got my cellphone (after we moved in to the apartment so about 10 years ago now?) I didn't realize it's ok if rain falls on it. I'd just gotten the hang of answering the thing, but still stressed and my niece called me while I was out in the rain and I apparently was connected but waving my phone, yelling at my son and daughter in law, HELP ME, it's raining on my cell phone and I need to talk to Maria!!!!

The family has never let me forget that moment!
