VOLCANO, Hawaii (KHON2) — Kilauea has begun its 11th episode, spewing lava more than 400 feet high, according to the USGS.
The ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption started just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Officials said the fountaining began with a low-intensity spatter with lava erupting onto the caldera floor through a spillway in the vent and continued to escalate just before 7 p.m.
As of now, lava has covered about 10 to 15 percent of the caldera’s floor.
“No changes have been detected in the East Rift Zone or Southwest Rift Zone. HVO continues to closely monitor Kīlauea and will issue an eruption update [Wednesday, Feb. 26] morning unless there are significant changes before then.”
