Gobbldygook

Ghoti Ichthus

Genesis 18:32, 2 Chronicles 7:14, Acts 5:29
When I highlight-copy-paste Bible verses from BibleGateway to here, between the verse number and the beginning of the words, there's always 6 gobbldygoog character that I have to delete, verse-by-verse, so the nonsense doesn't appear in the Bible verses in my posts here.

This happens with Tor and Firefox, both using the Duck.

The gobbledygook is
It didn't happen before the forum software update.
It doesn't happen if I highlight-copy-paste into a Word or PowerPoint document.

Is there some way to stop this from happening?

:thankyou:

The   is an html code for a non-breaking space. As I understand it, it prevents a line break occurring where there's a space, thus enabling words that should be together to remain together. In your case, it is preventing each verse number from being separated from the verse it introduces. I have absolutely no idea why in your case this is appearing in your text when you copy. It should be invisible. Perhaps TT can tell us why it isn't.

Yep, what Mattfivefour says. You can wave a magic wand but will still get whatever you get when you copy and paste.

I don't understand how Duck is involved in the process of cutting and pasting from one site to another.

It isn't that I know of. Habit of specifying browser and search engine when asking for help for online stuff

I still don't understand why the code shows up visibly ever since the CCF software update/upgrade, but it didn't before.

Unless maybe BG updated/upgraded theirs at about the same time . . .

Recently I've noticed stuff inserted with Scripture verses when I copy and paste. Usually it's links to the source website that sometimes includes extra stuff like what you're seeing. I don't believe the appearance of anything peculiar from cutting and pasting has anything to do with Xenforo/Xenfocus (our website)

Guess I'll contact BG and see if they have a fix.

Hi @Ghoti Ichthus

This thread caught my eye as I am eating lunch. I just tested this with BibleGateway, and I think that if you hit the "Toggle BB Code" button in the toolbar (looks like two square brackets) before you paste, it should exclude the HTML entity for non-breaking space. Below is a random verse I copied from BG, pasted "regular":

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens.

Then, here it is pasted with BB Code toggled on:
10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens.
