French proposal for Israel-Lebanon peace agreement includes recognition of Israel - report

Lebanon has accepted a French proposal as a basis for peace talks with Israel, while Israel and the United States are still reviewing the framework, Axios reported on Saturday, citing three sources familiar with the details.

The proposal reportedly aims to end the current war, secure an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and create a path toward unprecedented Lebanese recognition of Israel.

The reported framework comes as Israel prepares to significantly expand its ground operation in Lebanon, with Israeli and US officials telling Axios that Jerusalem is weighing a push to seize the area south of the Litani River and dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tasked Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer with managing the Lebanese file and coordinating with the Trump administration, but officials cited by Axios said a deal is unlikely without strong US leadership.

For there to be an agreement it has to go both ways, between Lebanon and Israel.
If Israel insists the US be part of this plan for Lebanon to recognize Israel as part of a peace initiative, I can see Trump suggesting Lebanon join the Abraham Accords under its peace guidelines and normalization with Israel.

Somewhere down the line, there has to be a sense of peace for Israel to come to the place as described in Ezekiel 38, and the more the threat for Israel is lifted by whatever means brings Israel to that place of security, its going to happen because God has said it and it will be done. Isaiah 55:11

Mediated talks explore path to bring Lebanon into Abraham Accords

Frequent daily contacts are taking place between Israel and Lebanon with US and French mediation. As part of those contacts, a three-way conversation was held in recent days among three senior officials, one Israeli, one Lebanese and one American, in an attempt to advance a comprehensive agreement between the countries.

According to senior officials in the region and in the US, the talks have not yet led to formal, direct negotiations or to a ceasefire. However, three different frameworks are already on the table, one American, one French and one Lebanese. What they share is a single strategic goal: disarming Hezbollah and bringing Lebanon into the Abraham Accords, as part of a broader diplomatic arrangement for peace and normalization between Israel and Lebanon.

The three frameworks differ mainly on the timetable for implementing the arrangement and on the requirements for a ceasefire. The Lebanese and French proposals call for a halt to fire toward Beirut and toward areas with large civilian populations. France has also added a demand that Israel commit not to strike civilian infrastructure as a punitive measure. Both of those frameworks include a principled commitment to disarming the Hezbollah terrorist organization and ending fire toward Israel, but without an orderly, practical plan for carrying it out.

Without that plan, the deal is meaningless. Lebanon's problem is that Hezbollah has more will and more resources than the Lebanese government. It would take an outside force to remove Hezbollah.
