FAA Recruiting Workers with Psychiatric Problems to Be More Diverse and Inclusive

1LoverofGod

Well-known
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working to hire people with psychiatric problems and other concerning issues in order to be more diverse and inclusive, Fox News reported Sunday.

On the FAA’s Diversity and Inclusion webpage, the agency claimed, “Diversity is integral to achieving FAA’s mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel across our nation and beyond,” adding diversity is “critical.”

Under its People with Disabilities tab, the FAA laid out its People with Disabilities Program (PWD) that offers those individuals equal job opportunities. The site continued:

The FAA meets the goals of the PWD Program through a variety of practices:
Targeted Disabilities
Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government, as a matter of policy, has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring. They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism.

Well, there are psychiatric problems and psychiatric problems. If someone who has a social anxiety disorder is working in a position that has a low public profile, I see no harm in it. If someone is having a psychotic break, maybe not the best idea to give them authority.

People gotta work.

If any one of the psychiatric hires is as bad off as my sibling, who I would not entrust riding a bike, driving a car, or even using mass transit without supervision, is working in a control tower, the people on all the planes under that tower's control, not just that controller's control, are in serious danger. And people and facilities on the ground, as well.

Of course Privacy Act and HIPPA prevent relevant questions from being asked

Note to self: do not buy a house or condo, or rent an apartment within 50 miles of an airport :tap:

I was NOT happy with the FAA's recent decision to quietly downgrade the cardiac fitness requirements for pilots last year (they deny it has ANYTHING to do with forcing the vaccine on the pilots and of course the vax is now proven to have cardiac issues)

They covered that up nicely, and now this.

Several aviation channels that G watches regularly have brought up the DIE (Diversity, Inclusion and Equity) rules in regard to licensing of airline pilots (gotta fill those slots of pilots who died of heart attacks) as well as hiring using DIE in Boeing plants which may have helped cause the door plug to fall off the Alaskan Air plane a week ago.

Isn't it odd that they named that program DIE for Diversity, Inclusion and Equity?

Because that may well be the net result of that program.

For what kinds of jobs? I’m all for this as long as they aren’t directly involved with the movement of the planes in any way.
(Except maybe hiring the right person with Asperger’s for the tarmac…as long as they can prove that they can work under stress and change their course of action quickly. )
