Does Genesis Still Matter? :: By Angel Torres

Andy C

Well-known
Since the Book of Genesis is inspired Scripture, every Bible-believing Christian would agree that it matters (at least in that sense). But is Genesis still relevant considering that we are living in the Last Days spoken of in Hebrews 1:2?

The answer is a definite yes, and we can have assurance that is the case because (1) God’s Word does not change, and (2) Genesis 1-11 is still the foundation for the rest of Scripture. Even though Christians are not living under the Old Covenant (such as the laws and ceremonies delineated in Leviticus), the Old Testament is still inspired Scripture that God has preserved for our edification (see 1 Corinthians 10).

Not only has God given us a wealth of prophetic insight and information in the Old Testament, but He has also given us the basis for all our Christian doctrines (including eschatology) in the first Book of the Bible: Genesis.

Why is the world the way that it is? Genesis 1-11 gives us the answer. What is sin? Genesis 1-11 gives us the answer. Why did Jesus come into the world to save sinners? Genesis 1-11 gives us the answer. Why is Jesus coming back? Genesis 1-11 gives us the answer. We can go on and on!

Tragically, many Christians are not aware that Genesis is a goldmine of world history. For example, did you know that Cain built the first city in all human history? Genesis 4:17 tells us, “And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.”

Have you ever wondered why we have a seven-day week? In that same chapter, we are told that mankind was capable of crafting instruments (Genesis 4:21) and practicing metallurgy (Genesis 4:22).

I see Genesis very relevant to today because for one the very first Prophecy in the Bible has only been partially fulfilled. Satan bruised Jesus in the heal at Jesus first coming in the suffering and death of Jesus.

"And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”

Genesis 3:15

Jesus dying on the cross was merely a bruising because Jesus rose from the grave on the third day.

"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures"
1 Corinthians 15:3-4

When Jesus bruises Satan on his head, a "mortal wound", in a crushing defeat of satan and the Prophecy is complete when satan is cast into the Lake of fire forever.

"The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."
Revelation 20:10

Commentary on Genesis 3:15 from Enduring Word with David Guzik......

There is no doubt this is a prophecy of Jesus’ ultimate defeat of Satan. God announced that Satan would wound the Messiah (you shall bruise His heel), but the Messiah would crush Satan with a mortal wound (He shall bruise your head).

The heel is the part within the serpent’s reach. Jesus, in taking on humanity, brought Himself near to Satan’s domain so Satan could strike Him. “That bruised heel is painful enough. Behold our Lord in his human nature sore bruised: he was betrayed, bound, accused, buffeted, scourged, spit upon. He was nailed to the cross; he hung there in thirst and fever, and darkness and desertion” (Spurgeon).

Also atheists, homosexuals and evolutionists havr one common theme, they all deny and especially attack genesis
Yep

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.
