Seven of the confirmed deaths were all elderly adults 70 and over. There are at least six more people critically injured. The water depth averages 20’ at high tide. The accident occurred at low tide. It was a rolling gangway that rises and falls on a floating dock. So when it collapsed at least 20 people went into the water and the gangway would have been at a steep incline due to being low tide. The currents are also known to be swift in this area.
