Canada's retaliatory tariffs on US goods to start Tuesday, PM Trudeau says

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada will impose 25% tariffs on C$155 billion ($107 billion) worth of U.S. goods from Tuesday if U.S. President Donald Trump's administration follows through with its proposed tariffs on Canadian goods, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday.

Canada will slap 25% tariffs on C$30 billion worth of U.S. goods from Tuesday, while tariffs on the remaining C$125 billion of products will come into effect in 21 days, Trudeau said in a statement.

"Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn................................."Trudeau added.

unpleasantness all round!

What can't be cured must be endured as my family used to say.

If Trudeau would have sorted the problem out, and spent the money doing the right thing we wouldn't be in this mess. But the dog ate his homework and he's offended that Trump didn't give him brownie points for trying.

Unfortunately Trudeau is seizing the opportunity to capitalize on the general public's anger with Trump to pull his ratings up in the polls- so he is now doubling down on the stupidity.

Thankfully I bought American stuff when I could. What this will do to the price of groceries here will be appalling.

President Trump BODIES Justin Trudeau In a Fierce Message Following Phone Call Regarding Tariffs

Following today’s developments, the trade war between the United States and Canada is unlikely to be resolved quickly.

As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, President Trump reinstated his tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China this week under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Tariffs were temporarily suspended last month during negotiations to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl.

Trump told reporters on Monday that there is “no room left for Mexico or for Canada,” citing the “vast amounts of fentanyl” that has come into the U.S. On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced reciprocal tariffs while insulting Trump.

Trump took to Truth Social this afternoon to announce that he had spoken to Trudeau regarding the tariffs and proceeded to body-slam him. He ripped the Canadian Prime Minister for his role in America’s fentanyl crisis and mocked him for his inability to explain when the Canadian election would occur.

“Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about Tariffs,” Trump wrote. “I told him that many people have died from Fentanyl that came through the Borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped.”

“He said that it’s gotten better, but I said, ‘That’s not good enough,'” Trump added. “The call ended in a “somewhat” friendly manner! He could not tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here?”
“I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!”

Trudeau IS using this situation to stay in power. His popularity is going up as the Canadian MSM capitalizes on the Orange Man Bad meme and sees Trudeau as the underdog who must be supported at all costs.

I don't see this going well for Canada but there you go, we've been sticking our finger in God's eye with Gaza, Israel, Suicide on demand, Abortion, and a justice system that appears to be broken beyond fixing.

I think this might break the country financially before that drama queen in Ottawa is done being Prime Minister. It's interesting that he was a drama teacher and Zelensky was an actor. I think Trump is used to the hysterical outbursts by now. They don't have quite the same effect on him that they do on lesser men.

It's a mess alright.

Looking UP :rapture:

Once Trump's reciprocal tariffs start globally, tariffs will automatically shoot up by the amount Canada is tariffing the US, that's not counting the punitive tariff. It will shut down trade if countries don't remove their tariffs against the US.

I suspect the only real problem will be the tariffs against China... too much essential stuff like medicines are coming from there, so it would make things quite difficult for the US. Aside from China, I don't think there is another country that could really hurt the US.
