This isn't the same airport as the Eilat airport I'm familiar with from a long time ago. This airport is new and north of Eilat, well inland from the Red Sea, and doesn't require thread-the-needle flying like the little Eilat airport.
Bet they're getting ready for (potentially) needing the space in Tel Aviv for military because of its proximity to Gaza, Lebanon, and the Mediterranean.
