Answers To Questions about The Millennial Kingdom

By Todd Hampson

Q: DOESN’T 2 PETER 3:10 TEACH THAT THERE WON’T BE A TRIBULATION OR MILLENNIAL KINGDOM?

Context is key! Peter is not laying out the various details of the Day of the Lord but the ultimate result of it. In the OT the Day of the Lord is sometimes referring specifically to the Tribulation period, sometimes the Millennial Kingdom, and sometimes the entire end-time time frame. Context is key. Broadly speaking, I believe the Day of the Lord encompasses everything from the Tribulation period through the destruction of the current world/universe when God creates a new Heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21).

So, 2 Peter 3:10 is speaking of the same event recorded in Revelation 21:1. We can’t take one verse (2 Peter 3:10) and develop an overarching conclusion without considering all other related verses (including Revelation and all of the OT prophets).

Q: WHERE WILL THE CHURCH BE DURING THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM? IN REVELATION 20 THE MARTYRS OF THE TRIBULATION COME BACK TO LIFE AND REIGN WITH CHRIST FOR 1000 YEARS. BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO MENTION OF WHERE THOSE BELIEVERS WILL BE WHO GOT RAPTURED BEFORE THE TRIBULATION?

We believe the Church will be raptured prior to the Tribulation period, then at the end of the Tribulation period, we will return with Christ (Revelation 19:14) to witness him defeating the armies of the antichrist. After that, we will reign with Christ and the martyrs and the remnant of Jewish believers who will be protected (then saved) during the second half of the Tribulation period (Revelation 12:14; see also Romans 11:26, Zechariah 12:10). So, we (along with the resurrected/glorified martyrs and OT saints) will be in our glorified spiritual bodies. We will enter the Kingdom along with believing survivors of the Tribulation period (perhaps primarily the protected Jewish remnant) who will be in their natural bodies (still with a sin nature). We will rule and reign with Christ in our glorified state. At the end of the 1000 years, many of the descendants of those who entered in their natural bodies will quickly rebel against Christ when given the chance (Revelation 20:7-10).

Q: WHEN WE WHO ARE CHRISTIANS COME BACK WITH CHRIST AT THE START OF THE MILLENNIAL REIGN, DO WE ACTUALLY LIVE ON EARTH, OR DO WE GO BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH? HOW WOULD WE ALL FIT ON THE EARTH DURING THE THOUSAND YEARS?

We’re not told exactly how that will work out, but I have heard some theologians speculate that we may be living in our “living spaces” (“mansions” in some translations) as mentioned in John 14:1-3.......
