All SNAP recipients must requalify

My official position is I'm against the govmint being involved in any welfare programs.

People need to make their own way and more of them would if there weren't so many programs to take advantage of. For those that can't make it on their own, hopefully there is family or community that will help.

That's my thoughts on that. Now, so long as there are govmint welfare programs, I don't mind people taking advantage of as many as they can qualify for. If I could qualify I would take advantage of the programs. I still don't believe the govmint welfare programs should exist.
Even though I benefited from them, I agree with your opinion. They shouldn’t exist through the government. It really should be up to the local church and communities to help those in need. Not forced theft through taxes.

When I go to WalMart I see so many people buying lots of processed food. Its very expensive. You get a big bag of rice, big bag of beans, family pack of chicken. Eat that. Sorry but I don’t have a lot of sympathy I guess. I went through a span of two years eating mostly ramen noodles with frozen mixed vegetables, tortillas with refried beans, eggs with cheap bread, and spaghetti. Frozen orange juice was my fruit. Once a week I had popcorn for dinner. I was poor and I didn’t get to eat just anything I wanted and I accepted that.

I lived off mostly popcorn and peanut butter sandwiches one year when things were tight. You do what you got to do...

My go to when I was struggling at 18 years old (kicked out and family drama) was ramen noodles, yogurt, and saltines with butter. Those were some interesting times. It just motivated me to go to college and work so I could make money and not depend on anyone since family wasn't really a support.

I dont know about other states but in California EBT cards have been issued to the explosion of homeless population in this state.
The error that was enacted was when they began to allow the use of EBT on fastfood and precooked food in convenience stores.
It was a mistake to enact this because it enabled the homeless to remain homeless because they could use EBT on fastfood and even got a cash benefit, they have had no incentive to get themselves off the street and work. Some have no choice to be homeless but many want to be because they have no responsibilities and many are drug addicted or alcoholics.
When I first got married in the late 70's and my kids dad got laid off from work, we applied for food stamps and he had to register for work and turn in a monthly statement showing when and where he looked for work, and part of the requirement to get food stamps back then was to have cooking facilities. Basically, a kitchen with a stove or some kind of cooking appliance. If you didn't have that, you couldn't get food stamps. They did away with those requirements
But as homelessness was rising in California, they did away with all of those requirements.
I believe it was only last year that the registering for work requirement was reinstated to qualify for food stamps. They still allow the use of EBT for McDonalds, Pizza places, and any other fastfood places in California, including taxpayer paid food delivery.
Also, California being a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants, can get food stamps and cash aid "without any document proof of who they are or where they came from".
The EBT has been abused in California, and US citizens who are in real need of help and are legitimately unable to work are being affected by that abuse

I have mixed feelings on gov support. Yes, churches can assist if they are financially equipped. However, 85-90 percent of churches have less than 200 attend their services, which makes them less likely to help very much.

I do believe limited Gov assistance at the state level should be available, but a strict criteria for eligibility must be met, and enforced.

We all can think of examples where needed assistance is the last resort, but assistance granted should only be for a short period of time.

Secy. Rollins: ‘SNAP fraud is out of control’ — 186K dead people still listed as receiving benefits

Following the ongoing government shutdown and persistent media coverage of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has since publicly revealed extensive fraud in the program, citing state-supplied data while urging sweeping reforms.

Rollins reiterated her concerns in an appearance on Newsmax’s program “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”

“186,000 deceased men and women and children in this country are receiving a check,” she said. “Now, that is what we’re really going to start clamping down on.”

There needs to be long-term/permanent benefits for severely disabled, such as severe Down's Syndrome, in which someone was born that way, will never get better, and can't even work in a sheltered workshop/sheltered workplace. Now, there's SSDI, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP/EBT, and some other stuff, depending mostly on which State and which disability(ies). This, I have no problem with.

I have a real problem with people getting SSDI, Medicare/Medicaid, SNAP/EBT, etc. before they would normally become eligible because of their age when released from prison (over 50) and history of incarceration being counted as a disability/insurmountable barrier to employment :furious:  :apost: :ban:

I also have a huge problem with companies buying out other companies and firing all the bought-out company's employees, who are convicted felons, just because the buying company has a company policy not to hire convicted felons. Especially when the workplace and work doesn't change substantially :furious:  :apost: :ban:

We still eat ramen noodles, always a couple cases of it on pantry shelf, and it is good with some mixed veggies and if you can get some meat to add in it and spices , rather have that for lunch and a can of soup loaded with MSG. Our neighbors are Sec.8 , four adults and a coupe kids and they have enough $$ to smoke skunky pot from 7am to 7-8pm every single day, that has to be expensive.
