IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated that the laws surrounding conscription for the army in Israel should change such that all members of Israeli society are called up to defend the country.

Last week, war cabinet Minister Benny Gantz said that "in the long term," a service bill must be gradually implemented so that these two groups could "enter the circle of service,"ing times, one thing is very clear - everyone should do their part to protect our home,” Halevi said. “This is a different time, and prior realities should be reexamined. This is a super important and very divisive change.
Currently, under Israeli law, Israeli Arabs and the Ultra-Orthodox are not required to serve in the IDF.
That threat brought Netanyahu's coalition govts to the breaking point in the past. The Arabs aren't the issue. It's the Haredi or Ultra Orthodox who have enjoyed exemptions for military service. The secular Jews in Israel hate that they must serve while the Haredi get off free and clear. Netanyahu's coalition rests on support from the Haredi groups. For Halevi and Gantz to be speaking of this it means things are getting very very serious. It's about time.

But that means that the Haredi (Ultra Orthodox) will no doubt demand concessions in return whether that might include the Sabbath Laws being tightened up on all Israel (the ones that Jesus spoke of - pray that your flight is not on the Sabbath

or some other concessions remains to be seen but that is an earthquake rumbling across Israel right now.
