Is it just me? Every major forest fire, flood, and hurricane is now a sign of the times? I simply cannot enter into this.
If forest fires, floods, and hurricanes were to explode in frequency and intensity to 2X their worst decade-long stretch in the past 200 years, then we would be significantly beyond the worst stretches in their historical cycles. Then we would be at all-time highs. Then we could consider that the fires, floods, and hurricanes we see might be the Braxton-Hicks birthpangs of the last days. But we are not at such record highs. What we see is still within the historical range. So why sensationalize normal (under the curse) weather patterns? This undue attention to insignificant things detracts from the real stage setting for the last days that is going on in the political, geo-political, technological, and economic arenas.
(We are not disputing that some urban-area fires appear to have deep-state shenanigans involved. That is a very different story.)
It seems to me that most of this sensationalizing is coming from folks that have been watchmen for less than a decade. They are new to this game. Those of us who have been watching for four, five, or six decades have a bit more experience under our belt and are less attracted to sensationalizing the headlines.
Folks, we profess to believe in literal interpretation, that is, in the historical-grammatical hermeneutic. This means we must pay attention to history. If we actually pay attention to history, then we will see that history is filled with floods, fires, and hurricanes that equal or surpass in death and destruction what we now see. The current decade is not the worst decade in history, much less significantly beyond the historical high-water marks. If we reject or mock this backward look at history, then we are rejecting the historical-grammatical hermeneutic, and we are, for all practical purposes, admitting that we love to operate in a spirit of sensationalizing and don't actually care whether the facts uphold or overthrow the message.
Folks, we need a revival of the historical-grammatical hermeneutic. This is what gave us dispensationalism, the pretrib rapture, and watching the signs of the times in the first place. If we allow looseness, sloppiness, and sensationalizing to dominate our ministries, then we are undermining the historical-grammatical hermeneutic. Then we are an inner-fifth column which weakens the camp of the truth by indulging in sensationalism and fantasies rather than reality. This always hurts the truth in the long run.
